George Herman Ruth, Jr. was born on February 6, 1895, in Baltimore, Maryland. At the age of 7, Ruth's parents sent him to St. Mary's Industrial School for Boys, that became Ruth's home for the next twelve years.
Ruth peculiarly looked up to a monk named Brother Mathias, who became a mentor for a young boy.
Mathias introduced Ruth to baseball, a game at which the boy excelled. At the age15, Ruth showed extraordinary skills both as a strong pitcher and hitter. Jack Dunn, the owner of the minor league Baltimore Orioles got impressed just because of its strong pitching and Dunn saw potential in Ruth's athletic performance. At the age of nineteen, the law forced him to have a legal guardian to sign his contract in order to play baseball. And for this, Dunn became Ruth's guardian.
Ruth played club baseball for very short period of time before he was called up to the MLB in Boston. The left-handed pitcher responded properly to the situation and proved his importance. In the next 5 years, Ruth played a very important role for Red Sox to win 3 championships, including the year 1916 championship that saw him pitch a still-record thirteen scoreless innings in one game.
With its titles and the Babe, Boston was purely the class act for MLB. In year 1919 things changed drastically and he suffered from financial problems because owner of Red Sox Harry Frazee required money to pay off his debts. After that in year 1919, he joined New York Yankees, which purchased him with the sum of $100,000.
Due to the departure of Babe, Boston lost their winning momentum and for the New York Yankees the scenario was altogether different. With the presence of Ruth the Yankees started dominating, winning 4 World Series titles in the next 15 seasons.
