Wilt Chamberlain was born on 21 August, 1936 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, US. He is considered as one of the most offensive players in the history of basketball. More than 7 feet tall,Chamberlain was an excellent center. He became the first player to score more than 4,000 points during 1961-62 NBA season. As a teenager, he played 2 years (1956–58) at the University of Kansas, afterward he joined the Harlem Globetrotters for a year (1958–59).
In year 1959 he went to NBA, playing with the Philadelphia Warriors (1959–65; in year 1962 moved and became San Francisco Warriors ), going back to Philadelphia to play for the 76ers (1965–68), and ending up his career with the Los Angeles Lakers (1968–73). Chamberlain had a long-standing rivalry with Boston Celtic Bill Russell, and that increased the popularity of the game.
He scored 31,419 points throughout his career, until year 1984 Chamberlain held the record for points scored, when his record was wrecked by Kareem Abdul Jabbar. Throughout his career Chamberlain played with an average of 30.1 points per game, an NBA record and with a career average of 22.9 rebounds per game.
On March 2, 1962, he made 100 points against the New York Knicks in Pennsylvania, which is a top single-game feat till today. He also scored more than 56 points 61 times in regular-season games. On March 2, 1962 he tallied 36 field goals in a game, and on November 24, 1960 he captured 55 rebounds in a game. Chamberlain's proudest feat was never having fouled out of an NBA game. He was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1978.
