Seniors who were not signed have a tough decision to make

It’s the season of the unknown for majority of the senior high school basketball players now. With the official season over, many of the anticipated offers from Division I schools – never came; putting them in a limbo as now, they are even too old to play throughout the summer in the AAU 17U. But that’s not stopping them from being unrealistic; really?

Many of the NYC area coaches believe that these unsigned players are being unrealistic and still holding on to hope that maybe one of the D - I coach that saw them play will throw them a line of scholarship.

These players don’t have any scholarship offers and according to Big Apple Basketball’s Jason Curry, it’s too late for them quite frankly. He further adds that this is the time that these unsigned players should weigh in their options and prepare themselves to make some tough decisions.

It’s too late in the game because by now the D-I schools have already filled up their roster (and quota for scholarships) for the 2011 class and will be moving on to focus their efforts on the class of 2012. Hence, almost 95 percent of the unsigned seniors can be accommodated only by the D-II, D-III and Junior Colleges which on the contrary can also hamper their chances of the a look up at the last minute by the D-I’s.

Indeed a very confusing time for these players along with an excruciating need to make some tough decisions.

The D-II and D-III schools usually speed up their recruitment towards the end of the high school year primarily because the seniors don’t really entertain the idea of going for them as their first choice, everyone wants to hold out for the D-I and want to give it their best shot. But these players should not forget that some D-II schools actually fare better than some D-I schools and should make their decisions with lot of thought and a stable mind.

Students also have the choice of going for a prep school to buy them some time but the option doesn’t work for everyone and it should not be forgotten that most of these players have already been evaluated by the D-I schools once.

No matter, the drudgery of the unsigned seniors still lingers and it’s up to them to do some brain storming and arrive at some tough decisions, after all, these will either make or break their careers.
