Love can be empowering it is said. But when it empowered former Bear Quarterback Bobby Douglas, it completely backfired. Douglas was recently arrested on counts of criminal trespassing and criminal damage in Lake Forest,
IL and was subsequently taken to the Lake Forest police Department.
Deputy Chief of the LFPD, Glenn Burmeister said that the incident took place when Douglas, 63, went to his ex girlfriend’s suburban residence, ‘to talk things over’. Allegedly, enraged over why she was breaking off with him, he forced open the front door of her residence by kicking it and in the process damaged the frame. Things went bad when the police were called in to help the unharmed lady.
It was also discover by the police that Douglas was wanted for a ‘failure to appear’ warrant out of Christian County, IL; and that alone was enough for the police to keep him locked up for the night. He appeared in court the next day where his bond was set for $10,000.
In his NFL career, Douglas has played for the Bears, Saints, Chargers, Raiders and Packers but played most of his career for the Chicago Bears. He played 11 NFL seasons and also set the record in 1972 for most rushing yards by quarterback in a season (968) and was hence considered a threat more as a runner than a passer. His record stood for 34 years.
According to the Deputy Chief, this wasn’t the first time that Douglas has had a run in with the police, stating that “He’s familiar to our police department”; surely it won’t be for bringing in coffee and doughnuts every so often.
