Even in light of the lockout, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasslebeck seemed to be a lot confident of being back with the team.
However, given the recent events, a lot of fog seems to be surrounding the issue of whether the Seahawks will be going back to him and vice versa when the dust settles.
Hasslebeck, now 35, has started for the team for the last 10 seasons; however, in the last five seasons, he has completed only one 16-game season.
For the future, the Seahawks need to be on the lookout for a new quarterback. But prior to the lockout, the team was in fact talking of bringing back Hasslebeck even when they were aiming to recruit Jake Locker. Even Hasslebeck was looking forward to work with this young quarterback given the praise that he was singing about Locker to Greg Bedard of the Boston Globe in an interview.
When the lockout was briefly lifted a few weeks back, Darrell Bevell, the offensive coordinator for the Seahawks had called up Hasslebeck and had expressed the team’s strong desire to have him back. During the same time that the lockout was lifted for a brief time, the owners of the Seattle Seahawks, like the other teams handed out the year’s playbooks to the players; however, on the other (awkward and mysterious) side, they did not give one to quarterback Matt Hasslebeck. Matt managed to get his hands on one anyway saying that a teammate gave it to him.
The Seahawks and Hasslebeck, the free agent veteran, were unable to agree on a contract since last winter and hence a lot was left to speculation before the lockout as to whether the two sides will be reuniting again. But with Darrell Bevell’s call and Hasslebeck showing interest by gaining the playbook, things are looking a bit bright for this NFL team.
But with Charley Walters suggesting that Hasslebeck can be the best option for the Minnesota Vikings, there is still a little doubt as to what can transpire.
