Tracking back the US Open Championship 2010

The 110th US Open was a major shuffle and come back for the UK golfers as Graeme McDowell of Northern Ireland won the US Open after 40 long years. This European win was greatest benchmark for the continent as it was the second enormous win.

The 2010 United States Open Championship began at June 17th and ended on June 20th and it was played at Pebble Beach Golf Links. In 1970, Tony Jacklin registered a massive win and his achievement was discussed in news for several years. It took nearly half of the century for the European golfers to re-acquire the championship, but the present championship belongs to them and Europeans are well known to retain their position. In the coming years, we would definitely see such incidences quite frequently.

Every year the players are categorized and then classified accordingly for the field. More than half of the players consisted of the players who were completely exempted from qualifying the 2010 US Open. The first round began on the Monterey Penninsula with a sunny cool day. This was the most shocking round as Mickelson and Tiger Woods did not make a birdie in this major round championship.

In the second round, notable players such as Hunter Mahan and Rory McIlroy missed the cut. Tiger Woods shot back nine 31 with birdies on the last three holes. Graeme McDowell shot took 36-hole lead with -3 (68) and struggled in this round. Ernie Els and Grégory Havret finished at even par simultaneously.

The final round was dramatic as the overnight leader Dustin Johnson dropped out of the contention. Woods never got his round going and Grégory Havret remained close with contention. Graeme McDowell bagged championship after grounding out a round of 74 to win the game.
