Tanzania all set for First American Football Game in Africa

On May 21, Tanzania, in eastern Africa is going to host the first United States football game ever played on the continent. That day, Drake University will be up against the CONADEIP, an all-star team from Mexico.

The 2 sides will take on with each other in Moshi, a town in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Few days ago the Drake team held some practice sessions and ran a football clinic for local kids.

The game is part of the first Global Kilimanjaro Bowl. Later on, players from both teams will take part in local community service projects. They will work at Moshi’s Kitaa Hope Orphanage and build an addition to the facility. Players and coaches from the U.S. and Mexican teams will then climb Kilimanjaro, Africa’s tallest mountain. Taking various routes, they will meet at the top, planting their national and university flags.

The forthcoming trip to Africa reflects Drake’s mission and values, according to Drake Athletic Director Sandy Hatfield Club. “We endeavor to offer chances that will assist leadership, learning and prepare student-athletes to be liable global citizens and to become champs of positive change.”
