The 2nd version of the Vivendi Trophy, the biennial golf competition which swaps with the Ryder Cup, will be held at Saint-Nom-La-Breteche, west of Paris from September 15-18.

And organizers said on Wednesday they are demanding that the competition be renamed the Vivendi Seve Trophy as an honor to former world topper Severiano Ballesteros who died past week.

Previously called as the Seve Trophy, the tournament was made by the Spanish golf star to give European players a chance to sharpen their match skills in preparation for the Ryder Cup.

Afterward known as the Vivendi Trophy with Seve Ballesteros the tournament pits Continental Europe against Ireland and Great Britain in team match play.

"This occasion is in the fortitude of the Ryder Cup," French Golf Federation head Georges Barbaret informed AFP. "We want a competition of this level."

On Tuesday France won the right to organize the 2018 Ryder Cup.

Spaniard Jose-Maria Olazabal is named as 2012 Ryder Cup skipper and in this capacity will direct the Vivendi Trophy and select the skippers of both teams.

Ireland and Great Britain will defend the trophy following their 16.5-11.5 win over Continental Europe in 2009.
