All National Hockey League players start somewhere.
For young hockey players in Winnipeg, it starts at the local rink with dreams of playing in the National Hockey League one day. But now they hope they will get to watch the players they aim to be, right here in Winnipeg.
"I think it is great, we require an NHL team here," said twelve year old Trayton Blank.
"I watch other teams and they motivate me," said eleven year old Garrett Urwin.
An NHL agent Darryl Wolski said a pro team here would help young players feel like their dream of playing in the NHL is promising.
"You will have players that will stay here for 3 or 4 or 5 years so the children will say; Hey I want to be whatever player, I aim to be this guy," said Wolski.
The exhilaration can be felt and heard almost all over you go in the city, and spectators are rushing to show off their pleasure. Jets merchandise is flying off the shelves and not just here in Manitoba.
"I have had calls from Calgary, I have had calls from Regina, family, friends and customers," said Zak Rubin, at River City Sports Stores in Winnipeg, "They are all trying to get something Jets, whether it is still going to be the Jets or something else folks do not care, they need a piece of what's happening right now."
Although nothing is confirmed, the young players wish to see the NHL come back for their own personal reasons.
