Recently the Clearfield Make-A-Splash program was named as the exceptional scheme of the time by the Utah Recreation and Parks Association awarded for year 2010.
"It is a big honor to get this program award," Community Services Director Tracy Heun said. "Actually we feel good about it just because Clear-field believes stoutly in attempting to avoid drowning deaths."
In year 2009, the center trained more than 5,500 kids to swim. At the end of 7 or 8 sessions, each kid learns enough fundamental skills to go through the USA Swimming Foundations test.
This program is compensated for using scholarships as well as Mayor Don Wood's scholarship program. Wood doesn’t accept any of his salary, and in its place, these funds are utilized to pay for exercise programs for low to average income youth.
