Oregon coach Vin Lananna yet again refused reports that he is going to become Chief Executive Officer of USA Track & field.
Lananna said vigorously that he would stay at Oregon. He said that he was not a contender for the USATF position, and wouldn’t be leaving the Ducks for the USATF right away after the present Oregon season. He asserted any reports to the differing merely are wrong.
He is also a track and field UO director, an athletic director (associate) and member of the year 2012 United States Olympic Trials local organizing team.
The year 2012 United States Olympic Trials for Track and Field will be held at Hayward Field.
Lananna was also member of the 2008 Olympic Trials, which had been a big achievement by any objective measure.
It is easy to see why the USATF would be maneuvered by Lananna's resume.
He also held several of coaching positions on U.S. national teams and committee positions in the USATF, and served as athletic director at Oberlin College. He will be chief coach for Team USA at the forthcoming IAAF World Track & Field Championships.
In year 2005 he came to Oregon and played a big role for the Ducks in the year 2009 to win the NCAA men's indoor title and the UO women to win the NCAA indoor titles in year 2010 and year 2011. The Oregon women's team is amongst the challengers for the outdoor title this season.
He reinstated to Eugene the city's "Track Town" distinctiveness by bringing in NCAA and national championship meets, whereas making both the Oregon women's and men’s teams regular NCAA title threats in cross country, outdoor and indoor track.
